Here they are, two of my favorite stand-alone Western historical romances. Both have new fabulous Kim Killion cover designs! And both have heroes who have come to America from far away to make their fortunes and find the women strong enough to stand beside them.
McCRORY'S LADY is about a Scot who has made his fortune after immigrating to America where he has become a cattle baron and respected member of Arizona Territory's society. On the trail of his daughter's kidnappers, he runs across a beautiful bordello madam in Sonora who makes him a devil's bargain. Only she can help him rescue his daughter, but in return he must marry her and take her away from the tawdry life she hates. Blackmailing a hot-tempered Scot like Colin is not exactly a promising way to begin a relationship…but Maggie is no ordinary woman.
The Tucson area during the 1880's when the fearful Apaches were being herded onto reservations gave me the backdrop for Colin and Maggie's tale. The infamous "Indian Ring" of corrupt government contractors who are the villains of my tale are based on fact. Along the way you will run across a familiar name, if you've read either of my House of Torres Books. There is also a subplot secondary love story between Colin's young daughter and a half-breed Apache gunman. They are a loving and sweet anecdote to the battle royal that rages between Colin and Maggie.
In BROKEN VOWS, the story opens in 1864 Nevada at the height of the Comstock Lode silver boom when an innocent young preacher's daughter witnesses a prize fight between the town bully and a handsome young Irishman. Rebekah and Rory soon become lovers, vowing never to part…until the machinations of an evil older man and her family's prejudice against the penniless Rory destroy their pledge. Flash forward six years and Rory has become a wealthy Congressman who finds Rebekah widowed and accused of her brutal husband's murder, a murder committed by a deadly and secret enemy who menaces them and their little boy. Is their love still strong enough to save them and reseal the sacred vow they made on a moonlit night in the bittersweet past?
The awful conditions endured by miners on Nevada's Comstock, and the cold-blooded ways mine owners allowed them to die are again, sadly based on fact. The opulence and corruption of the era make a chilling yet fascinating backdrop against which to set my tale of love redeemed.
Jim has a Christmas Newsletter grousing about the exploitation of the holidays to make your season jolly. I've included beef brisket, perfect for a festive holiday dinner, on my Recipe Page. Enjoy!
Have a blessed holiday and glad new year filled with love and adventure through happy reading,
Happy reading,
